Distance Learning Lab

One of the recent additions at the ALSTAR EMS Training Center has been a collaborative effort to regionalize a paramedic program by combining classrooms at different locations with real time internet technology.   Several facilities, physicians, and instructors have been working together to improve the quality of EMS education while reducing the cost of travel for our local EMS providers. The combined classrooms allow the students to see and hear each other via a large TV through internet technology, while the students lecture material is presented on a separate TV screen.  This technology allows for multiple instructors to be available at the same time for all of the students and has been very successful.  This technology and the combining of classrooms have also been used for several continuing education trainings by combing three locations in Chautauqua, Cattaraugus and Allegany Counties.  Bringing the students together throughout the region for EMS education is both exciting and rewarding.
